MADRID: Sergio Ramos Returns to Sevilla as They Defeat Las Palmas for First Win of the Season

Veteran defender Sergio Ramos made a triumphant return to his former club Sevilla after 18 years as they secured a 1-0 victory against Las Palmas in the Spanish league. Ramos had started his career at Sevilla before making a move to rival team Real Madrid. While some Sevilla fans expressed their displeasure with his recent signing, the majority showed their support during Sunday’s match.

The winning goal came in the 71st minute when Dodi Lukebakio found the back of the net at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. This crucial victory allowed Sevilla to move out of the relegation zone, having experienced three consecutive losses at the start of the season. On the other hand, promoted team Las Palmas suffered their third loss in five matches, leaving them winless and in the danger of relegation.

Late arrival and logistical issues troubled Las Palmas as they were forced to take two separate flights from the Canary Islands. This further worsened their situation, as the club revealed that 15 players missed the first flight. These challenges may have impacted their performance on the field.

In another match, Villarreal’s new coach Jose “Pacheta” Martín began his tenure with a thrilling 2-1 victory against Almeria. The winning goal came from Alexander Sorloth, who headed the ball into the net during stoppage time. Prior to Sorloth’s heroics, Sergio Akieme had given Almeria the lead, which Gerard Moreno later equalized before halftime.

Villarreal had faced a difficult start to the season, suffering three losses in their first four games, including defeats against Barcelona and Cadiz. The victory against Almeria provided a much-needed boost for the team. Meanwhile, Almeria remains winless and in last place with four losses and one draw, highlighting their struggle to find success in the league.

Getafe snatched a 3-2 victory against Osasuna, securing their second win in three matches. Nemanja Maksimovic scored the winning goal in the 86th minute. This result marked Osasuna’s second consecutive league loss. However, Getafe player Fabrizio Angileri was sent off during stoppage time, leaving his team with ten men.
