Man City player ratings vs AC Milan as Oscar Bobb dazzling but Ederson frustrated
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Manchester City were narrowly beaten 3-2 in their second pre-season friendly, held at the iconic Yankee Stadium.

City took the lead as the brilliant Oscar Bobb replicated his first assist in the opening friendly vs Celtic by dropping the shoulder and teeing up Haaland.

But Milan were soon ahead. Two identical goals in five minutes saw Samuel Chukwueze clip a cross to the back post for Lorenzo Colombo to score through Ederson.

James McAtee nodded City level from a Micah Hamilton cross soon into the second half, but Marco Nasti secured the win for the Italians as he converted past Ederson.

Read how we rated the players from the Yankee Stadium:

Ederson

Recalled, and made captain, Pep Guardiola desperately wants Ederson to stay. He made two big stops early on, but will be massively disappointed to let two Lorenzo Colombo strikes through his body at the back post. He knows he can do better. 5

Mahamadou Susoho

Played out of position at right-back, Susoho was fine with the ball – however Colombo twice got a free shot away at the back post with the full-back nowhere to be seen. Guardiola was gesturing instructions to him at a later stoppage in the hope it didn’t happen for a third time. 6

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey

The youngster was backed with another start, and was better than his debut vs Celtic. Still a little nervous at times, but held his own against some accomplished strikers. 6

Callum Doyle

Did well to cover both centre-back and left-back on the narrow pitch at the Yankee Stadium. Showing what he’s learned over the last three years out on loan and looks a confident player. 7

Rico Lewis

Nominally a left-back, Lewis was inverting into midfield and supporting Perrone. Milan’s first half goals came from his side. Despite that, he’s started pre-season well. 6

Maximo Perrone

With Phillips dropped, Perrone got a reward for a goal vs Celtic with a start. Guilty of abandoning his position a few times, however the midfield looked so much more secure so Perrone deserves some praise. 6

James McAtee

It’s a big summer for McAtee, who wants to stay and has the manager’s backing. He says he must make an impact when he gets the chance. After a quiet first half followed a quiet opening game, McAtee was in the right place to nod home after Hamilton’s cross to get his season up and running. 7

Nico O’Reilly

A better performance than against Celtic, and held his position in midfield better, too. Encouraging. 6

Jack Grealish

It’s not been the most electric two games for a player with plenty of pressure on him. At the same time he’s done little wrong. Played a bit more central, replacing Haaland as number nine in the second half, and did his job well. 6

Oscar Bobb

Two assists and a goal in the first game, now a dazzling assist int he second. He almost scored a brilliant solo effort, and would have had another assist but for misses from Haaland and McAtee. 8

Erling Haaland

The man they all came to see. Haaland had one thing to do all game and slotted home from Bobb’s assist. It gave the fans the goal they wanted, but his half-time substitution meant the superstar was only involved for the first half. 7

Kalvin Phillips (on 45)

Much, much better than the Celtic game – but still a few too many misplaced passes. At least he stayed in the general area of defensive midfield this time. One hairy moment. 6

Josh Wilson-Esbrand (on 45)

Another who was much better this time, because he wasn’t asked to invert. Helped create overloads with Hamilton on the left. 6

Micah Hamilton (on 45)

Nice assist for McAtee and plenty of good intentions. 7

Jadel Katongo (on 45)

Solid enough. 6

Jacob Wright (on 64)

Better than his cameo against Celtic playing a little further forward. 6

Amar Fatah (on 67)

One promising run into the area from the trialist, who must be the first trialist City have fielded in years. 6

Scott Carson (73)

Moments after Ederson conceded a third, Carson got a rare run-out in a move that will be supremely popular among fans who love the cult-hero stopper. Kept a clean sheet. 7

Josko Gvardiol (73)

Not much time to impact the game on his return to action, but played at centre-back which could be an interesting development to watch. 6
