There might be a case for contracting out specific jobs at SaskTel to remain competitive in the cutthroat world of telecommunication.

Frankly, that’s pretty much the kind of thing the country’s only remaining public telecommunications utility has had to do for the past 30-plus years to justify its public ownership existence.

To its credit, SaskTel has made a pretty compelling case as to why it has deserved to remain in taxpayers’ hands.
It shook off long-distance deregulation in the early 1990s. It adapted by making cellphone service and TV streaming its business.
It’s remained profitable enough to contribute dividends to provincial government coffers while still providing good-paying jobs, and is deemed one of the
