The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in strong winds, excessive lightning and heavy downpours leading to localised damage to infrastructure, localised flooding of susceptible areas (formal/informal settlements), roads and low-lying bridges over the western parts of Mpumalanga, Western Bushveld and south-western parts of Limpopo as well as Gauteng.

A yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in difficulty in navigation as well as localised disruption of small harbours and ports is expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas on Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Dawid Kruiper Municipality of the Northern Cape, Matjhabeng Municipality of the Free State as well as Musina Municipality of Limpopo.

The weather in your province 

Fine weather in the morning is expected in Gauteng, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north. Scattered showers and thundershowers can be expected in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy in the east with showers and rain, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm. Scattered afternoon thundershowers are expected in places but isolated in the extreme north-east.

It will be cloudy in the east of Limpopo, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in Limpopo Valley and extreme conditions in the western parts of the Western Bushveld. Scattered thundershowers in the west are expected, otherwise, isolated showers in the central and western central.

Fine and hot to very hot conditions can be expected in the North West, becoming partly cloudy in the east in the afternoon with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

In the Free State, it will be cloudy with morning fog patches in the far east, otherwise fine and warm to hot becoming partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon.

The Northern Cape will experience partly cloudy conditions over the southern interior at first, otherwise, fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the north.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

The Western Cape will be cloudy in the east in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot but partly cloudy along the south coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly along the south coast, strong at times in the afternoon, otherwise fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

There will be isolated showers on the western half of the Eastern Cape and rain along the coast and adjacent interior in the morning where it will be cloudy otherwise partly cloudy and cool becoming fine over the interior by afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be light south-westerly, becoming south easterly by evening.

On the eastern half, there will be morning fog and drizzle over the north eastern parts, otherwise fine and cool but cloudy with isolated showers in places along the coast and adjacent interior as well as the eastern parts.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

It will be cloudy and cool with scattered showers and rain in KwaZulu-Natal, but isolated in the west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.
