In a bid to show its military might to the world, especially its “principal enemy” South Korea, North Korea test-fired multiple rockets on Friday, Barron’s reported.
The launch event was attended by the North Korean President Kim Jong Un.
North Korea has been accused by the United States and its neighbour South Korea of supplying weapons to Russia in its war against Ukraine.
Recently, North Korea has been observed mending ties with Russia.
Earlier this month, Pyongyang thanked Moscow for vetoing the United Nations Security Council resolution blocking the renewal of a panel of UN experts that monitored international weapons sanctions on Kim’s government.
According to local sources, during the test, military officials announced that the “flight features, and hit and concentration indices of the 240 mm shell of a multiple rocket launcher, made at Pyongyang’s new defence industry unit, were evaluated very satisfactorily.”
In a speech, Kim said that the rocket launcher “with new technology would bring about a strategic change in bolstering up the artillery force” of the North’s army.
Yang Moo-jin, president of the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul told AFP that “North Korea resembles a missile defense industry expo.”
This year, Pyongyang has declared South Korea its “principal enemy”, and threatened war over “even 0.001mm” of territorial infringement.
