Prince Harry’s good work could be “drowned out” by the recent controversies, blasts one royal expert.

The Duke of Sussex, who stepped down as a senior working royal in 2020, was recently honoured with the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPYS in Los Angeles. The award was presented to him for his own service, as well as his work with the Invictus Games.

However, due to his constant “mudslinging” and attacks on the Royal Family, many have started a debate about how much he “deserves” the award.

The fact Harry accepted the award has sparked major critics after ex-military chiefs urged him to reject it – with 70,000 people also signing a petition to try and stop the former working royal from receiving it.

Speaking to The Sun, royal expert Sarah Hewson said she believes Harry will be “very stung” by the backlash received in regards to the award.

She said: “What he has done through the Invictus Games is extremely laudable; I think it’s the best thing that he has done.

“This is his legacy project and there are so many people that would say he has changed their lives, even saved their lives.”

Ms Hewson stated that the extensive backlash “isn’t coming from the usual suspects”, which means it will carry more weight for the Duke of Sussex.

She added that she also believes that Harry’s charitable work, military service and position as Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation have been “drowned out” by the recent controversies.

The expert then went on to cite his “mudslinging” in his memoir and previous interview with Oprah.

The 39-year-old and his wife Meghan Markle – who was pregnant with their daughter Lilibet at the time – made a series of shocking allegations.

The pair sparked a race row by alleging that an unnamed member of the family had commented about “how dark” their then-unborn son’s skin might be when he’s born.

During the bombshell interview, Meghan also claimed that she was prevented from seeking mental health support when she was in need of some help.

Discussing this, Ms Hewson said: “All of the good work he has done is unfortunately overshadowed by the Oprah interview, Netflix series, Spare, the mudslinging.

“Unfortunately, those are the noises that are much, much louder in this.

“And when we see him at the Invictus Games, you see the old Harry, the true Harry – he comes to life again.”
