James Stewart will take over as the new president of Unifor Local 444 after defeating Monte Pidskalny in an election held over Thursday and Friday.
It’ll be the second time Stewart has held the role of president.

He filled in as interim president for a year in 2017 when then president Dino Chiodo took the position of national auto director for Unifor.
Retiring Local 444 president Dave Cassidy, whose last day was Friday, has held the presidency since his election in 2018.

Stewart began his career at Windsor Assembly Plant in 1993 and was elected steward in the chassis department in 2002.
He then became plant chair and held that role until he was elected first vice president of Local 444 in 2012. Stewart then replaced Cassidy as the local’s secretary-treasurer in 2018.
Stewart has also played a leading role in the past two rounds of negotiations where he served as chair of the FCA/Stellantis master bargaining committee.

Acclaimed to their Local 444 executive positions were: Mike Stevenson (1st vice president), Mike D’Agnolo (2nd vice president), Steve Morgan (3rd vice president), Manny Cardoso (secretary-treasurer), Jon Binns (recording secretary), Ace Tasevski (sergeant-at-arms) and Layal Kurdi (guide).
Elected as trustees were Holly Cazabon, John Middleton and Dave Simone. Brandon Alliet, Todd Laliberte and Frank Mosey were elected as members at large.
