Even though there are only 31 movies and shows leaving Netflix this May, there are some pretty big hitters on the list. Trying to watch all of them would be a time-consuming task, so we rounded up three of our favorites that you should add to your watch list in the next few weeks. For some of you, that might just involve binge-watching all four Hunger Games movies.
The Boxtrolls
Last day to watch on Netflix: May 22
The stop-motion animation studio Laika has only produced five feature films to date, but all five are worth watching. The Boxtrolls was their third, helmed by first-time directors Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi. The stop-motion film follows a young boy named Eggs, who was raised by mischievous trolls in the fictional country of Norvenia. Eggs attempts to protect the Boxtrolls from exterminator Archibald Penelope Snatcher. The voice cast includes Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, Toni Collette, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, and Simon Pegg.
The Hunger Games
Last day to watch on Netflix: May 31
This is a four-for-one special, as all four Hunger Games movies are leaving Netflix on May 31. This is one of the paramount young adult franchises of the last twenty years. Jennifer Lawrence stars as the District 12 Hunger Games volunteer Katniss Everdeen, who has to fight to the death against other children while the whole world watches. Other than Harry Potter, there aren’t many YA book adaptations as entertaining or beloved as this film series.
Split
Last day to watch on Netflix: May 31
You might have already watched Split when it jumped to the top of the charts on Netflix in early April, but if not, make it a priority. This psychological thriller is about a man with over 20 distinct personalities who kidnaps three young girls, but as with any M. Night Shyalaman movie, that’s just half the story. As long as you haven’t already been spoiled, the twists will genuinely shock you, and James McAvoy’s performance is seriously impressive.
