The Green Bay Packers fell short against the San Francisco 49ers Saturday night in the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs, but running back Aaron Jones is still proud of the team’s improbable run.
Per NFL Network’s Bridged Condon, Jones said the Packers’ run was sparked by their mindset and willingness to buy in.
“Nobody thought we would be here,” Jones said. “Nobody thought we’d make it to the second round of the playoffs. But it just shows that if you buy in, you believe in each other, block out the outside noise and guys work together offense, defense, special teams and you really come together it’s hard to stop you know, it’s that chemistry.”
The Packers snuck into the playoffs at 9-8, winning seven of their last 10 games to make it in. From there, Green Bay pulled off a huge upset, beating the Dallas Cowboys in a wild-card matchup 48-32.
It wasn’t the ending the Packers wanted, but they still exceeded expectations to make it into the divisional round.
The Packers shocked the world with the win over Dallas, and they came just short of another huge upset over the NFC’s top seed on Saturday. Green Bay held a 21-17 lead late in the fourth quarter, but the 49ers offense flexed its muscle by way of a Christian McCaffrey touchdown to take the lead.
On the Packers’ final drive of the game, quarterback Jordan Love, who was playing in just his second playoff game, threw an interception to seal the deal.
All-in-all, Green Bay had a successful first year of its new era without quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While Love fell short in a critical moment on Saturday, he has proved himself as more than capable of handling duties as the Packers’ starter. This season, he had 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns.
A young Packers team fell short in a miraculous playoff run on Saturday, but it’s clear the future is bright in Green Bay.
