Dana White Benches Fighter From UFC Roster After Bizarre Illegal Strikes Win Went Viral a Month Ago
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

UFC Charlotte brought along some tantalizing ups and downs in the promotion’s landscape. The UFC made a last-minute call to downgrade the originally expected headliner – the Light Heavyweight clash between former title challenger Anthony Smith and Johnny Walker. Instead, Dana White and Co. decided to step up the heavyweight bout between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Jailton Almeida as the card’s headliner.

However, one fight stole the spotlight from the main event. Yes, we’re talking about the controversial clash between women’s flyweights Kim Ji-yeon and Mandy Bohm. The duo were slated to lock horns at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Spivak. But the opportunity was lost because of Bohm’s withdrawal from the bout, citing illness.

This time, however, when the duo finally met in the octagon, things went bizarrely wrong for the South Korean fighter. Due to illegal strikes from Ji-yeon, the judges deducted points from her scorecards, eventually leading to Bohm’s win by a split decision. The incident set the MMA community ablaze, and now, another intriguing post-fight development has caught the public eye.

Dana White ousts fighter from UFC roster after viral bizarre win with illegal strikes

The aftermath of the fight brought unexpected developments. Recent reports reveal that the flyweight ‘Monster,’ has been removed from the UFC roster. The question on everyone’s mind: What led to Mandy Bohm’s abrupt expulsion?

The unusual chain of events began with referee Larry Carter deducting a point from Kim Ji-Yeon for a late kick on Bohm after the round’s conclusion. This deduction proved pivotal as Kim came out aggressively in the third round, cognizant that the point loss could cost her the match. She pushed Bohm against the cage, aiming to land impactful strikes.

However, the situation took a decisive turn. Bohm’s positioning–with her head down and hand on the canvas – categorized her as a grounded fighter. This became the catalyst for Kim’s knee strike, a blow that connected with Bohm’s head. The referee intervened due to yet another illegal strike, assessing Bohm’s condition as visibly hurt.

The fight’s conclusion arrived with an array of pointed deductions. Carter halted the match, subtracting another point from Kim for the illegal knee. After careful review, the knee strike was deemed unintentional, allowing the judges to assign scores. Ultimately, Bohm secured the victory, with two scorecards reading 28-27 in her favor and one 28-27 for Kim. The contest concluded at the 1-minute 55-second mark of the third round.

In the realm of mixed martial arts, where the unexpected is often the norm, this episode underscores the intricate complexities that make the sport so captivating to its fans. As the dust settles on this intriguing tale, the MMA community awaits the next chapter in this ever-evolving saga.
