End of an era: one more season, then Daniela Ryf retires
It’s a message she doesn’t find easy to tell, but after this season, Daniela Ryf is retiring. One more season, the Swiss athlete will try to get the most out of herself, but after that she will quit triathlon. “It simply feels like it’s the right time,” she said.
“My body has achieved extreme performances and I’m am very grateful that I’ve been able to push it so far. Sport has taught me to be tough, it has allowed me to find and define myself and create my own path.
“Throughout my career I’ve met many amazing people who made this journes so special. I am so grateful for the support I felt through all these years from my family, friends and coaches, especially Brett. Without them my succes would not have been possible.
“I’m truly grateful for all your support through the years. And to my partners, a huge thank you, for standing by my side through the highs and the lows.”
Ryf did triathlon for more than 20 years, became world champion 10 times and broke the Long Distance World Record. This year she is racing the T100 series, Ironman South Africa and the Ironman World Championships in Nice, among others.
