Get ready for the 121st edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. This year, Georgia hosts Auburn in one of the biggest rivalry games the SEC offers.
Though lately, it hasn’t been much of a rivalry. The Dawgs have won seven straight games, 10 of the last 11, to slam the door on their opponent. And we all know how they’ve done outside of their matchups with the Tigers, winning a couple national championships over the past three years.
But the Dawgs have some gaps to fill this year with a handful of star players heading to the NFL, and there’s nothing like good old fashioned hate that brings an underdog to its best.
The Tigers may not have the historical advantage, but they lost by just seven in 2023, a sign of a team on the rise. Auburn improved to 6-7 under Hugh Freeze’s first year as head coach. That record itself may not be much to brag about, but it isn’t an insignificant moment from the Tigers’ transitional year.
They still have a lot of catching up to do to threaten the Dawgs this year. We’ll see how it fares in Week 6 of the college football season.
