Jack Grealish appears to donate £5,000 to student from Birmingham given ‘weeks to live’

Jack Grealish has donated £5,000 to a £1million leukaemia appeal set up to save a student’s life.

More than £116,000 has been raised for Dylan Lamb, who doctors fear only has weeks to live.

It’s not been confirmed whether it is Manchester City and England star Grealish who sent the £5K to the appeal but the donation has his name next on it.

Birmingham City’s Twitter account posted: “Blues supporter Dylan, 20, is currently fighting for his life, with his best chance of survival being a clinical trial in the U.S. Due to his life expectancy, he has just weeks to hit his target.

Grealish, 27, is from Birmingham, but grew up supporting Aston Villa and used his profile to show that some things are more important than football rivalries.

“Any help Bluenoses can give to Dylan could save his life.”

The 20-year-old, who is from Birmingham, went to his GP with a back problem thinking he had only pulled a muscle but blood tests revealed the devastating news that he had T-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

His family are in a race against time to raise the money for Dylan to travel to the USA for a clinical trial. Without the treatment it’s feared he only has weeks to live.

Sister-in-law Kelly Payne told the Birmingham Mail: “Dylan needs the clinical treatment because the chemotherapy is just extending his life rather than saving it. He really needs to go to the US.

“Dylan is so lovely – genuinely the nicest person you’ll ever meet. Even though he’s going through all this, he’s still managing to stay positive.

“He has been getting out and about with his friends and taking it all as he can really. Dylan had just finished his first year and we hope he can go back for his second term, but we need to raise the money quickly, and then go from there.”

Birmingham City FC, who Dylan supports, have also publicly got behind the appeal.

“We’ve been sending the appeal to loads of footballers – I think he probably saw it,” added Kelly. “It’s amazing we managed to hit £91,000 in four days. We have a long way to go, but we’re hopeful.”

Dylan was previously at Nottingham City Hospital where he had chemotherapy and a stem transplant. He also had bone marrow biopsies, high dosage steroids and intrathecal injections. He also made a decision to have his sperm frozen in case he became infertile following chemotherapy and shaved his hair off.

After a change in chemotherapy Dylan was told he was in remission in July 2022. A donor was found for him and he underwent a transplant in September before being discharged in October.

He made a return to ‘normal life’ but last month felt a pain in his lower back once again and it was confirmed the cancer had become even more aggressive. Dylan’s last hope is the potentially life-saving treatment in America.
