After acquiring utility player Tommy Edman from the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-team trade earlier on Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers did a bit more wheeling and dealing.

The Dodgers have acquired IF/OF Amed Rosario from the Rays in exchange for minor league RHP Michael Flynn. The Dodgers designated LHP Ryan Yarbrough for assignment in order to make room for Rosario.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported the Dodgers have acquired infielder Amed Rosario from the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s the second straight year that Los Angeles acquired Rosario at the trade deadline.
The Rays will receive pitching prospect Michael Flynn in return for the deal. Flynn has made 31 appearances in the minors this season and has a 4.25 ERA.
Rosario has appeared in 76 games this season and is hitting .307 with two home runs and 26 RBI. In 48 games with the Dodgers in 2023, he served as a platoon player at second base and hit .256 with three homers and 18 RBI.
The acquisition of Rosario provides Los Angeles with some insurance for Edman, who has yet to make an appearance during the 2024 season while recovering from offseason wrist surgery and a subsequent sprained ankle. Edman won a Gold Glove at second base in 2021, so he will be a major addition to the Dodgers infield when he’s healthy.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez noted that Edman has played eight games as part of a rehab assignment and appears to be nearing a return.
“I’m feeling good,” Edman said after being traded. “I’ve gotten a couple weeks of rehab under my belt. The ankle’s feeling a lot better. I’m going to get reevaluated out in L.A.”
At 63-44, the Dodgers are one of the favorites to represent the National League in the World Series this year. While Monday’s moves aren’t major splashes, they improved the overall depth for Los Angeles as the stretch run of the season draws nearer.
The Dodgers will open a two-game series against the San Diego Padres (57-51) on Monday night.
