8:23 a.m. — It seems like Kirk Cousins is going to hit free agency barring a last-minute agreement with the Vikings. Minnesota is among the teams interested in signing him with the Falcons serving as major competition, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“It does seem like the Minnesota Vikings are still working, still trying to see if there’s somehow, some way they can get Kirk Cousins to stay,” Rapoport said. “He’s always going to maximize, always going to take the biggest deal, but the clock is ticking for the Vikings. If it’s not Cousins, they’re going to have to pivot to Plan B.”

Source: The 49ers approached Arik Armstead about accepting a significant pay cut from his scheduled salary of $17.41 million. He declined, so the 49ers are set to release him and he will become a free agent.

4:23 p.m. — The Chargers are listening to trade offers on their top two receivers, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and top pass rushers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, per Albert Breer of The MMQB. The Chargers have negative $21 million in cap space as of Breer’s report.
The Chargers have had exploratory trade talks on OLBs Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack (as @DMRussini said), and WRs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Allen appears to be least likely to be moved, but they’re listening on all of them.
It all, of course, relates to their cap situation.

3:24 p.m. — The Bears are signing former Titans and Eagles safety Kevin Byard to a two-year, $15 million deal, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Byard had a career-high 122 tackles in 2023 and will be asked to replace Eddie Jackson, who was a cap casualty in Chicago during the offseason.

12:35 p.m. — Fletcher Cox is retiring from the NFL after 12 seasons. The Eagles lost Jason Kelce to retirement earlier in the offseason, so they now have gaps to fill on both sides of the trenches.
11:07 a.m. — The Patriots traded quarterback Mac Jones to the Jaguars for a 2024 sixth-round pick. Jones gets a fresh start after a couple of rocky seasons in New England. He was benched in favor of Bailey Zappe in 2023 after completing 64.9 percent of his passes for 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

12:30 p.m. — The Browns have made another receiver trade. They acquired Jerry Jeudy from the Broncos for fifth- and sixth-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Cleveland acquired both Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore via trade and will now hope that Jeudy, a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, will be invigorated by a change of scenery.

11:35 a.m. — Brandon Graham is returning to the Eagles for a 15th season. The 2010 first-round pick out of Michigan has 73 sacks in 195 career games and should continue as a good rotational edge player despite entering his age-36 season.

NFL free agency rumors, trade rumors
Vikings, Falcons among the favorites to land Kirk Cousins
Date: March 10
Source: ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano
The Vikings and Falcons appear to be the top teams in the running for Kirk Cousins. Fowler reports that the Falcons are a “major threat” to sign Cousins but a Vikings source told the ESPN reporter, “We’re not out of it.”
Cousins’ decision figures to come early in NFL free agency and could influence other quarterback signings, so fans should know expeditiously whether the Vikings will be running it back for another season or if the Falcons will be gearing up for an NFC South title run.
Bears waiting on Kirk Cousins before trading Justin Fields
Date: March 10
Source: ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano
The Bears are likely to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, but they “did not find the market they were hoping to find for Fields” in potential trades. That may force them to wait and see where some of the top quarterback targets — like Cousins — land before a true trade partner emerges.
Eagles listening to trade calls on EDGE Josh Sweat
Date: March 9
Source: NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero
The Eagles are listening to trade calls on edge rusher Josh Sweat, who has 35 career sacks — including 25 in his three seasons as a full-time starter. The Eagles saw Fletcher Cox retire and are permitting Haason Reddick to seek a trade, so Philadelphia’s defensive line rotation could look a lot different in 2024 than it did in ’23 (even with Brandon Graham returning for a 15th season).
