Tragedy struck the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade with one person killed and multiple others wounded in a shooting in Missouri.
Chiefs stars including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce had been celebrating in front of an estimated one million supporters, before shots were heard in Kansas’ Union Station.

Police officers stormed the Union Station after shots were fired inside
Police have said three armed people have been taken into custody shortly after the incident, which occurred around 2pm local time.
Kansas City Police Chief Stacy Graves confirmed that one person had died in the incident with up to 22 injured in total, with eight immediately life-threatening injuries.
Kansas City Chiefs said none of their players, staff or their families, were among those injured.
“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally,” Chiefs’ team statement said.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.
“We are in close communication with the Mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.
“At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.
“We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.”

Kansas City police confirmed that multiple people had been struck after shots were fired
The Chiefs’ star quarterback, Mahomes, posted to X, formerly Twitter, that he was “praying for Kansas City”.
Videos emerged on social media of fans tackling someone to the ground before police intervened.
Terrifying footage showed fans panicking to get away from the shots with some jumping over fences to get away from the gunfire.
Chiefs were celebrating their third Super Bowl triumph in five years after a dramatic win over San Francisco 49ers.
Mahomes, Kelce and coach Andy Reid were among those celebrating in the streets of Kansas before the celebrations took an ugly turn.
The victory parade ended outside Union Station in downtown Kansas City with the players still on stage as shots were heard.
Over a million people had lined the streets of Kansas City to welcome their team after winning a third Super Bowl in five seasons.
Cannons filled with confetti exploded from double-decker buses where the players were situated as they made their way through the streets.
Kelce’s girlfriend and pop icon Taylor Swift was not in attendance, however, having flown to Australia as part of her Era Tour.

Chaos broke out at the Super Bowl parade after shots were fired, with up to 15 injured
Video footage circulated on social media of chaos breaking out near the station where shots were heard.
Officers could be seen storming the building, including going underground, with police arresting two people.
Kansas City Chiefs had won the Super Bowl in dramatic fashion by clinching victory in overtime.
Mahomes found Mecole Hardman with just seconds left on the clock to secure back-to-back Super Bowl victories.
