Patrick Mahomes led tributes from players following the horrific scenes at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade in Kansas City.
Players and staff, along with the hundreds of thousands of fans who turned up to celebrate Super Bowl VIII glory, had to be rushed to safety after shots were heard in the city’s Union Station.

Kansas City police confirmed that multiple people had been struck
It has been confirmed that one person has died and 22 people have been injured with eight suffering immediately life-threatening injuries.
It’s been confirmed by the Kansas City Police department that they have detained three people following the attacks.
Chiefs confirmed that all players, coaches and staff were not hurt in the incident.
Mahomes wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Praying for Kansas City…”
The quarterback was then followed by his teammates who also posted their well-wishes on social media.
Justin Reid said: “Praying for everyone in Kansas City at the parade.”
Drue Tranquill has also asked for prayers for those impacted by the tragic events in Kansas City.
The linebacker wrote: “Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act.

People were told to leave the scene immediately after shots were fired
“Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”
Donovan Smith also posted: “Praying for everyone today in Kansas City.”
“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally,” Chiefs’ team statement said.
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.
“We are in close communication with the Mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.
“At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.
“We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.”
Former Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill continued the tributes, writing: “Prayers for everyone in Kansas City. Why turn something so positive into this.”

Trey Smith then praised those who were first at the scene, posting: “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by today’s incidents—a huge thank you to the first responders who ran towards the sound of danger. You’re the ones who should be celebrated today.”
“Praying for everyone involved,” said Chiefs center Creed Humphrey.
Kansas City police department told fans to stay away from the Union Central train station after shots were fired around the area.
And two armed people were taken into custody shortly after the incident around 2pm local time.
A statement read: “Shots have been fired around Union Station. Please leave the area.
“Shots were fired west of Union Station near the garage and multiple people were struck. We took two armed people into custody for more investigation.
“Anyone nearby needs to leave the area as quickly and safely as possible to facilitate treatment of the shooting victims. Please avoid the Union Station parking garage area to allow first responders through.”

The Chiefs have confirmed all of their players and staff are safe
The Mayor of Kansas City, Quinton Lucas, then sent his prayers to those affected and confirmed that all of the Chiefs’ players and staff were safe.
Lucas said: “First today, we had 600, Kansas City, Missouri Police Department officers 250 from outside agencies.
“We went out today, like everyone in Kansas City, looking to have a celebration. That celebration was marred by a shooting today.
“And we recognize that there are some who are injured we are praying for the safety of everyone.”
He continued: “The Chiefs noted that their players, coaches and staff are all accounted for at this point and safe.”
