Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League might not be officially confirmed yet.
The top-flight’s official X account shared a post that states the Blades’ demotion to the Championship is dependent on Nottingham Forest and Everton’s points-deduction appeals.

The post read: “Following their defeat to Newcastle, Sheffield Utd are relegated pending Everton and Nott’m Forest’s points-deduction appeals.”
The post was later deleted.
So, as it stands, Chris Wilder’s men have been relegated, but it appears that could change.
The Blades were beaten 5-1 by Europa League-chasing Newcastle at St James’ Park, which confirmed they would be playing in the second tier of English football again.

It’s been a season to forget for Sheffield United, who have collected just 16 points and conceded 97 goals.
This is a record for a 38-game season, with Swindon the only team to concede more with 100 goals, but that happened during a 42-game campaign.
“It stings and it hurts – we’ve not been good enough,” Wilder said.
“Sheffield United is a really good football club, I think everyone understands that.
“I’m enthusiastic and committed, along with my coaching staff. We know exactly what direction we need to go, what the culture needs to look like, what pre-season needs to look like.”
It’s looked inevitable they were going to be relegated for a while; however, their stay in the top-flight could yet be extended, according to the Premier League.
Everton and Nottingham Forest have been deducted several points over the course of the season due to breaking the Premier League’s PSR rules.
The Toffees initially had ten points taken from them, which was reduced on appeal to six.

But they were then docked a further two points, which the club have appealed.
Forest saw four points taken from their total, and they also have an appeal lodged.
Chris Wilder jokingly reveals how Deal or No Deal inspired his return to Sheffield United
Both teams expect to hear the outcome of their appeals very shortly, and it will have an impact on Sheffield United.
This is because, within the appeal process, there is the possibility for more points to be taken away.
The Premier League appeal board has the power to change any initial punishment.
Obviously, Forest and Everton hope their appeals hold and they face no further action or deductions, which would finally confirm the Blades’ relegation.
However, if more points are taken away, that would stave off Sheffield United’s demotion and keep them in the Premier League mathematically.
Certainly, that would change things at the bottom, although, given the Blades have won just three league games all year, it’s unlikely they would be able to pull off a miraculous escape.
