A Premier League ‘Luxury Tax’ to replace the current Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), replacing points deductions with fines, was always on the cards.
Thursday’s media exclusive didn’t come as any surprise to myself or any of my drinking buddies.
The lack of recent transfer activity in the Premier League January transfer window, was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back.
I think this is bound to be implemented in some way or another when the Premier League clubs meet at their post-season general meeting in June.
I’m not going to go into the 115 charges Manchester City are facing, or Everton and Nottingham Forest’s points deductions this season.
We’ve all seen and heard enough of them already and we all probably know what the outcome will now be.
A lot of football supporters up and down the country will say that abolishing points deductions and only fining the rich clubs is grossly unfair.
What I think is the bloody unfairest thing of all over the last two and a half years, is how the Septic Six have tried to manipulate the FA and EPL in any way possible to keep Newcastle United down.
When there is a Luxury Tax as such, brought in probably at the beginning of next season, I would like to think that the money generated will be filtered down into the lower leagues, but don’t bank on it.
I actually first read about all this on a Sunderland forum. The mackems were all over it in a flash and what became evident was that they were devastated about what the ramifications will be.
Outside of the Septic Six it is really only the supporters of Championship Sunderland that don’t want Newcastle United to be able to flex our massive financial muscles and challenge the so-called elite.

If you haven’t seen it, give it a blast, because he knows more about this than me.
All I know is that I’m happy and hopeful that my team look finally set to compete properly with the Premier League cartel.
Although we all were happy to rid ourselves of the greedy blood-sucking parasite Mike Ashley, this is what I ultimately wanted to happen after our takeover on 7th October 2021.
What would be the point in celebrating having the richest owners on the planet otherwise?
The very thought of having to sell our Rolls Royce or Saint Bruno to comply with stupid Premier League PSR/FFP looked a hell of a lot less likely last night as I downed my nightcap.
