Rashford set to stay at United

Despite recent speculation over his place at Manchester United, striker Marcus Rashford is likely to stay at the club unless his situation at the club drastically changes.

The 26-year-old missed United’s FA Cup game against Newport County, but was picked for the match against Wolves on Thursday night, scoring the opener as Erik ten Hag’s side won 4-3.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein explained the situation, saying: “He has just signed a massive new contract at United, so I would be very surprised if they don’t try and get this situation back on track.

“And not only that, because he’s a homegrown player who has come through the club and we saw last season what he’s capable of as their top scorer. Things have gone wrong of late, clearly, and there has been an element of interest in him in previous years. But there was Barcelona at one point, there was Paris Saint-Germain, and he is admired more so it seems by clubs on the continent.

“But there are also teams in the Premier League who think very highly of him when he’s at his best. But just because of the contract and the background to him at United, I don’t think a sale will be at the top of the agenda unless something deteriorates even further between now and the summer.”

Broja deal contains an unusual clause

The loan arrangement between Chelsea and Fulham for striker Armando Broja has a deal where it is actually cheaper for Fulham if they play him more.

The Sun explains that if Broja does not play a certain amount of games when fit then Fulham have to pay more.

“The deal includes a £4 million loan fee – reportedly with conditions regarding the number of minutes he plays for Fulham,” the paper writes.

“However, If Broja does not play a certain number of games when fit and available then Fulham could be forced to pay more.

“Wolves had hoped to land the forward until the end of the season after agreeing the same terms with Chelsea.

“Broja has instead chosen to stay in west London.”

Warnock could return to management

Neil Warnock could make a surprise return to management at the age of 75 after he was linked to the vacancy at Aberdeen.

Warnock has never managed in Scotland but he is in the frame to replace Barry Robson, along with Alex Neil and others.

The Daily Mail reports: “Neil Warnock and Alex Neil have emerged as the leading contenders to replace Barry Robson at Aberdeen.

“The Dons called time on Robson’s year-long tenure on Wednesday, with his sacking coming on the back of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Dundee at Pittodrie.

“With his team unable to find any level of consistency, the 45-year-old was under increasing pressure in recent days. A decision was quickly taken by the board to remove him and assistant Steve Agnew from their posts.

“The club’s hierarchy have already begun the task of identifying Robson’s successor, with football’s ‘Red Adair’ Warnock a name under serious consideration to lead the team until at least the end of the season.

“Neil, the former Hamilton, Norwich City, Preston and Sunderland manager, is likely to be carefully considered after leaving Stoke City last year.

“Gary Bowyer, who led Dundee to the Championship title last May before abruptly leaving, is also in contention along with ex-Birmingham manager John Eustace and former Celtic and Hibernian boss Neil Lennon.”

Nusa move on hold for Brentford

Brentford had been expecting to sign Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge but any deal for the Norwegian will now have to wait.

The 18-year-old’s medical raised concerns with the Premier League club and they have decided to hold fire on the deal at least until the summer.

“A club-record fee of £31.5 million, including add-ons, had been agreed with Club Brugge, but the medical raised a number of concerns and the 18-year-old was sent back to Belgium.

“Brentford sought more medical information from both Club Brugge and the Norwegian Football Federation.

“The situation has made the Bees wary of parting with such a large amount of money, given there was already risk involved in the deal due to his age and inexperience at the top level, and will now return to the deal at the end of the season.”
