The Astros only lost one game at Minute Maid Park during last season’s championship run, but the Rangers are out to prove that Houston can be conquered.
The Rangers stole Game 1 of the 2023 ALCS on the road Sunday night, shutting out a powerful Astros lineup behind a terrific start from Jordan Montgomery. Texas not only walked away with a road win, but also survived a solid start by Astros ace Justin Verlander. On Monday, the Rangers’ offense is hoping for even more success against Framber Valdez.
It’s tough to say Game 2 is a must-win for the Astros, considering how much success they have had on the road in recent postseasons, but going to Arlington down 2-0 would undoubtedly make winning the series an uphill battle even for the reigning champions.
After Valdez struggled in the Astros’ lone loss to the Twins in the ALDS, Houston needs an ace-like performance from the left-hander.
Even more than that, the Astros need more out of their lineup after a quiet start to the series. Nathan Eovaldi tends to be at his best in October, so the Rangers are positioned well from a pitching standpoint after claiming Game 1.

Game 2 of the 2023 ALCS between the Rangers and Astros will be broadcast on Fox. The Fox family of networks will carry the entire series between Texas and Houston.
