Wimbledon 2023: Day 7 Order of Play and schedule – When are Djokovic, Swiatek and Pegula playing?

Eurosport UK

It’s day seven at Wimbledon and there are some intriguing matches to look forward to.

All eyes will be on No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic as he takes to centre court bidding to make the quarter-final.

Before then, Iga Swiatek will attempt the same in the women’s draw, against Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic.

On Court 1, America’s Jessica Pegula faces Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko, and that will be followed by the promising Italian Jannik Sinner’s fourth-round tie against Colombia’s Daniel Galan.

Wimbledon Day 5 wrap – Wins for Djokovic, Sabalenka, Murray beaten

Top men’s match – Hubert Hurkacz v Novak Djokovic

Hubert Hurkacz has had a busy couple of days.

He defeated Jan Choisnki in straight sets in the second round, and then won by the same margin in what was on paper a much tougher match-up, against Lorenzo Musetti.

Now, he will face an opponent who looks tougher still going by reputation – Novak Djokovic – and one who will almost certainly be tougher on grass.

Djokovic found Jordan Thompson a decent day’s work on Centre Court, earlier in the week, and his win over Stan Wawrinka let him test himself up against a player of vast experience.

Djokovic beats the clock to overcome Wawrinka and secure place in fourth round

Hurkacz, ranked 17th, is the clear underdog but he is the best that Djokovic will have played so far at SW19, and could be regarded as a decent stepping stone before the biggest names comes out of the hat against the Serbian.

Top women’s match – Iga Swiatek vs. Belinda Bencic

The world No. 1 will have seen Aryna Sabalenka continue to impress, and Elena Rybakina remains in the hunt to retain her trophy.

Swiatek has had three matches so far and, in truth, has had just one tough set. Her second set against Petra Martic was won 7-5 in a straight-sets victory, but that just demonstrates the dominance so far for the Pole.

Swiatek storms past Martic into last 16 to match best-ever Wimbledon run

Bencic is an experienced Swiss player and ranked No. 14 in the world, with an Olympic gold medal to her name, so she will not be cowed by the atmosphere or her opponent.

She defeated Magda Linette on Friday in the third round, and only dropped one set in her three matches so far.

Swiatek is the clear favourite but she faces a tough opponent.

Brit watch

On Court 12, Jamie Murray will open up in his men’s doubles match alongside Michael Venus, against Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler. He will also team up with Taylor Townsend against Nicole Michar-Martinez and Jan Zielinski.

Katie Minaur and Katie Boulter will play Xu Yifan and Joran Vliegen, and Liam Broady will link up with Jonny O’Mara to complete their match against Rafael Matos and Francisco Cabral.

Rybakina sweeps past Boulter with dominant display in third round
