Amazon Australia launches eero Max 7 (Wi-Fi 7) & eero Pro 6E (Wi-Fi 6E)

Amazon Australia has announced it is expanding its eero Wi-Fi mesh system lineup in Australia with eero Max 7 (Wi-Fi 7) and eero Pro 6E (Wi-Fi 6E). Both were available in the USA last year.

If you don’t have a gigabit NBN internet plan and at least some Wi-Fi 7 (eg: Pixel 8 Pro) or Wi-Fi 6E (eg: Motorola Thinkphone) devices in your home you won’t get much benefit from these new Wi-Fi systems.

Nick Weaver, CEO and co-founder of eero commented:

“We know Australians love to stream sport, movies and TV, game, work from home, connect with loved ones overseas and use an ever-increasing number of connected devices”

“Connectivity is crucial to their everyday lives. Alongside being easy-to-use, fast, and secure, reliability is core to our mission, and this has been front and centre with the introduction of eero Max 7 and eero Pro 6E.”

eero Max 7

The Max 7 uses the the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard to deliver increased speeds, reduced interference from neighbouring networks, and improved mesh latency.

As eero’s fastest tri-band mesh Wi-Fi system yet, the Max 7 utilizes the 2.4, 5, and 6GHz radio bands to achieve wireless speeds up to 4.3Gbps and wired speeds reaching 9.4Gbps.

It’s dual 10Gbps and dual 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports provide ample bandwidth for wired devices while enabling internet plans up to 10Gbps (NBN residential plans are 1 gigabit max). A single Max 7 unit can cover upto 230 square metres with Wi-Fi.

It can handle over 200 connected devices while offering Matter support, Thread Border Router functionality, and a built-in Zigbee smart home hub for control purposes.

Its support for 2.5Gbps and 10 Gigabit Ethernet is so fast, I can’t think of any practical use for that level of wired data transfer in a home. Perhaps it may be of use in a small business where onsite staff often transfer very large files back and forth.

eero Pro 6E

The eero Pro 6E is a mesh Wi-Fi system designed for households with gigabit NBN internet plans, over 100 connected devices, and demanding connectivity needs. As a Wi-Fi 6E system, it supports the new 6GHz band to reduce congestion and interference.

The Pro 6E can achieve wireless speeds up to 1.3Gbps and wired speeds up to 1Gbps over Ethernet. It leverages gigabit+ Wi-Fi across the home and the 6GHz band to provide an additional “traffic lane” for faster, less congested connections.

Each Pro 6E node has one 2.5Gbps Ethernet port and one 1Gbps port to support multi-gigabit internet and wired devices. The 160MHz radio channels provide extra Wi-Fi bandwidth to enable low-latency applications like AR/VR and 8K streaming.

A single Pro 6E unit can cover up to 190 square meters, while a 3-pack expands coverage to around 560 square meters. The system is positioned as a high-performance solution for homes with numerous connected devices and users prioritizing a seamless Wi-Fi experience.

Additional Features and Benefits

eero Max 7 and eero Pro 6E will work with all major internet service provider plans and, like all eeros, have several features to deliver a great connectivity experience:

Easy to Set Up and Manage: Use the eero app to set up eero Max 7 and eero Pro 6E in minutes, manage the network, pause the internet, share network details with friends or guests, and much more.
Backward Compatible: Just like older eero units, the eero Max 7 and eero Pro 6E are backward compatible with previous generations of eero devices, making it easy to expand or upgrade an eero network. My advice however is not to do this. Mixing different generations of Wi-Fi equipment will result in less performance.
Safe and Secure Wi-Fi: eero is constantly working to help keep networks safe and secure. Automatic software updates provide the latest security patches, bug fixes, and feature upgrades.
Connectivity for the Smart Home: eero Max 7 and eero Pro 6E support Matter by enabling customers to set up select Matter-enabled devices, acts as a Thread Border Router, and features a built-in Zigbee smart home hub to connect compatible smart home devices on a customer’s network.
eero Plus: Subscribers to the optional eero Plus service ($159.99/year or $15.99/month) you can add advanced online security features and parental controls; take advantage of eero Internet Backup during an outage; and get three top-rated security apps included: 1Password Family for password management, Malwarebytes for malware and anti-virus protection, and Guardian for VPN access.
Free Customer Support: the eero Wi-Fi troubleshooting team is ready to help by phone or email seven days per week.

Pricing

The eero Max 7 device is available now for $1,099.99 (one-pack) and $2,999.99 (three-pack) through eero.com, Amazon.com.au, leading Australian retailers including JBhifi.com.au and Officeworks, and internet service providers such as More Telecom, Leaptel and AGL Energy.

The eero Pro 6E device is available now for $449.99 (one-pack) and $949.99 (three-pack) through eero.com, Amazon.com.au, leading Australian retailers including JBhifi.com.au and Officeworks, and internet service provider Aussie Broadband.

The eero Max 7 is very expensive. As you can see the eero Max 7 single pack costs the same as the eero Pro 6E 3 pack. I don’t recommend the eero Max 7 unless you have: lots of spare cash, several Wi-Fi 7 capable devices and a 1 gigabit NBN internet connection.

If you have an NBN plan less than a gigabit and no devices in your home that support Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 then you’re better off getting the older eero Pro 6 that is optimised to work best with Wi-Fi 6 5Ghz capable devices.
