On the afternoon of February 22nd, the Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine confirmed that Zong Qinghou, the founder of “Wahaha Group”, China’s largest and the world’s fifth-largest food enterprise, is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU and his condition is stable.
It is reported that Zong Qinghou’s health had been deteriorating before the Chinese New Year due to lung cancer, leading to his admission to the hospital.
Zong Qinghou was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in December 1945 and is now approaching his eighties.
In 1991, Zong Qinghou founded the Wahaha Food Group and transformed it from a factory affiliated with a school into a leading Chinese food and beverage company.
Between 2010 and 2013, Zong Qinghou topped the Forbes list of mainland Chinese billionaires three times in four years.
In 2013, Zong Qinghou stated in an interview that his family had renounced their U.S. green cards, he no longer held a U.S. green card or any foreign nationality, and he had no plans to immigrate.
Currently, Zong Qinghou still serves as the Chairman of the Wahaha Group, Chairman of the Zhejiang Beverage Industry Association, and Chairman of Zhejiang Wahaha Intelligent Robot Co., Ltd.
