President Yoon Suk-yeol met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday and they agreed to cooperate closely on the international stage.
“Our two countries have developed a close partnership in various fields, sharing the universal values of freedom, human rights and the rule of law,” they said in a joint press statement.
The pledged to promote “practical economic cooperation and build a stable supply chain.”
South Korea, “as a next nonpermanent member of the Security Council, will deal with North Korea’s unlawful provocations that are in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, in close cooperation with France, a permanent member,” Yoon told reporters after their meeting.
Macron also condemned North Korea’s human rights violations and added that South Korea’s presence on the UNSC will offer a chance for France to cooperate closely on North Korean issues.
Yoon recognized Macron’s leadership in supporting Ukraine against the Russian invasion and added that South Korea will work with the international community for the “peace and reconstruction of Ukraine.”
The two leaders also discussed cooperation in Indo-Pacific diplomatic policy and space and artificial intelligence industries.
Earlier in the day Yoon gave a presentation at the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris on Tuesday pitching Busan’s bid to host the World Expo 2030.
