A 29-year-old Ontario man is to appear in Quebec Court on Friday after a 70-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car at about 4 a.m. Friday in Gatineau’s Hull district.
Police said the man was struck at the intersection of Boulevard des Allumettières and Rue Saint-Rédempteur.

The victim was unconscious at the scene. His death was later confirmed at the Hull hospital.

Police said a dead dog was found at the scene and was handed over to the SPCA.
The driver of the car was arrested for suspected impaired driving. He was taken to police headquarters for a breathalyzer test and interviews with investigators.
Police said they would be submitting an accusation of impaired driving causing death to the province’s director of prosecutions.
The suspect’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
A section of des Allumettières remained closed between St. Rédempteur and Morin streets for further technical investigation and analysis.
People facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty. It’s our policy not to name those charged unless we plan to follow the case through the justice system or it’s of significant public interest to identify them.
