In a sudden change of weather, several parts of Delhi witnessed light to moderate showers on Tuesday (April 23) evening, giving relief from the hot weather. Gusty winds also accompanied the pre-monsoon rains, bringing down the temperature in Delhi.

RWFC posted on X, “Dust storm/Thunderstorm with rain (followed by rain) and gusty winds with speed of 40-70 km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Jhajjar (Haryana) Baghpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Garhmukteshwar.”

Delhi witnessed a scorching sunny afternoon with a temperature that reached 35 degrees Celsius, followed by dust storms in the evening.

“A dust storm followed by a thunderstorm with rain and gusty winds, with speeds ranging from 40 to 70 kmph, is expected to occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR within the next 2 hours,” IMD said.

The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius, normal for the summers. Moreover, the maximum temperature will settle around 38 degrees Celsius.

In another post on X, the met office said that isolated places of Delhi (Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Burari, Kanjhawala, Rohini, Badli, Model Town), NCR (Gurugram, Manesar) Kaithal, Narwana, Karnal, Rajaund, Assandh, Hansi, Charkhi Dadri, Mattanhail, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad, and Hodal (Haryana) will receive thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds.

On Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said that the temperature in Delhi will stay around 38 degrees Celsius in the upcoming two to three days. The met office had predicted the possibility of light rains on Monday, however, Delhi did not receive any rain yesterday and the temperature stayed above 30 degrees Celsius.

IMD Senior Scientist Dr Naresh Kumar told ANI, “In Delhi, our estimate is that the temperature is expected to remain around 38 degrees Celsius in the coming 2-3 days. After this, it may increase slowly by 1-2 degrees Celsius and with it, there is a possibility of light rain tomorrow. At present, if you talk about Eastern India, the temperature has reached 44 degrees Celsius in 1-2 stations.”
