The Houston Astros look like they are going to make at least one last run with their current core.
There have been plenty of questions swirling around the Astros this season. Houston has been one of the best teams in baseball over the last few years but it has seemed like the club was going to have to break up their core.
The Astros have been great but the roster is about to get extremely expensive and they won’t be able to hold on to everyone. Third baseman Alex Bregman has been the most obvious candidate who could be on the move and it seemed like he could get traded at one point when the Astros were struggling.
Houston has turned things around and now looks like it will end up in the playoffs once again. The Astros could use a boost in the starting rotation and were listed as a fit for Chicago White Sox hurler Erick Fedde by The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman and Tim Britton.
“Erick Fedde reinvented himself in South Korea, winning MVP honors and then returning to MLB on a two-year, $15 million deal that now has the last-place White Sox primed to get some real value in exchange,” Gleeman and Britton said. “While not quite a front-line arm, this version of Fedde looks like a solid mid-rotation starter, and next year’s $7.5 million salary is a bargain even if he regresses a bit. Potential landing spots: Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, and Atlanta Braves.”
Fedde would give the Astros another veteran hurler who immediately would pencil into the club’s No. 2 or No. 3 starter role. The Astros don’t need to go out and pay for another ace, but landing someone like Fedde could give the club just what they need down the stretch.
