We all love an unexpected present, right? In triathlon terms, we’ve been handed one – welcome to Europe Triathlon Cup Kielce 2024.
Reacting quickly to the additional interest in the event as a result of British Triathlon’s Paris 2024 Olympic selection process, at short notice Europe Triathlon have confirmed that there will be a livestream for Sunday’s finals in Poland.
And even better, you’ll be able to watch it right here on this page without leaving the confines of TRI247.
Star time and how to watch it live
Part of the Europe Triathlon Cup series, this is a first-time addition on the calendar, taking place in the capital of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship province of south-central Poland.
This is a semi-finals and finals event, all taking place on the same day, Sunday June 2, 2024. The finals will feature in the livestream on Sunday afternoon, taking place at 16:30 local for the Elite Women (15:30 UK, 10:30 EST, 07:30 PST) and 17:30 local time for the Elite Men (16:30 UK, 11:30 EST, 08:30 PST).
The races comprise a 400m swim in Kielce Reservoir, a 7.6km (3-lap) bike and 2km run, both pan flat, so we are likely talking about circa 20-ish minutes of racing. Just click on the embed below to watch it unfold live.
Why it matters – the road to Paris 2024
From a British perspective, this race could ultimately decide who will be the athlete selected to join Alex Yee in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. As well as racing individually in the French capital, perhaps more critically, securing a spot in what will be a squad looking to defend the gold medal won in the Mixed Team Relay in Tokyo, is the prize on offer.
While the outcome of this race doesn’t guarantee that selection, this is quite literally the last chance to showcase your talents before the selection committee meets next week. If you want the full deep-dive on where we are in that selection process and the issues involved, this article is a must read.
Great Britain claimed Mixed Relay gold at Tokyo 2020.
Who’s racing?
It’s pretty clear that as of today, Jonny Brownlee, Sam Dickinson and Hugo Milner are almost certainly the only names in that Olympic selection mix.
Brownlee of course earned his third Olympic medal as part of that relay team in Tokyo, and has the legendary C.V. and experience which, despite some off-par performances over the last year, would still make him the favourite for selection if solidifying that relay team is the primary goal.
Dickinson and Milner are the young guns chasing, but both will be aware that finishing behind the Yorkshire legend on Sunday will almost certainly mark the end of their Paris 2024 goals. Rarely one to miss a music analogy, It’s Now or Never, would be the Elvis take on this one…
You can find the full start lists here – Elite Women | Elite Men – with Dickinson and Milner both going in semi-final #1, Brownlee in #2.
Qualification should be a formality… and then it’s get ready for the final on Sunday afternoon.
