Sean Bailey, Disney’s president of production in its film division, is exiting his role after fifteen years in the job.
As a result, Searchlight chief David Greenbaum is taking over, effective immediately, in the newly titled position at Disney – President of Live Action and 20th Century Studios.
The shift will finally see a merging of Disney’s live-action division, which handles films like their live-action remakes, with 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox), which Disney acquired in 2019.
Greenbaum will report to Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman. Meanwhile, Steve Asbell will continue to serve as president of 20th Century Studios whilst Matthew Greenfield will take sole oversight of Searchlight as president.
Bailey will segue to serve as a producer on studio projects including Disney’s upcoming “Tron: Ares” currently in production – a fitting end as he took the position whilst working on “Tron: Legacy”.
Bailey oversaw Disney’s various live-action adaptations of its beloved properties beginning with 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland”. Recently, that initiative stumbled with the soft performance of “The Little Mermaid” remake and the outright bomb of the new “Haunted Mansion” film.
Greenbaum is a seventeen year veteran of Searchlight, working on such films as “The Shape of Water,” “Nomadland,” “The Favourite”, and “Black Swan”.
Disney has live-action titles like “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “Alien: Romulus,” “Mufasa,” and the live-action takes on “Moana,” “Lilo & Stitch” and “Snow White” on the way.
